Racial profiling and discrimination is now legal in Arizona. No matter how you spin it, if a police officer pulls someone over for any reason and they are Hispanic, dark skinned or for any reason an officer sees as suspicious, they can be detained.
This has already happened and this was a few days before the new immigration law was signed by Governor Jan Brewer last Friday.
A Valley man said he was pulled over and questioned on Wednesday before the bill was signed.
Abdon, who did not want to use his last name, says he provided several key pieces of information but what he provided apparently was not what was needed.
He said, “I don’t think it’s correct, if I have to take my birth certificate with me all the time.”
3TV caught up with Abdon after he was released from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in central Phoenix. He and his wife, Jackie, are still upset about what happened to him. Abdon was told he did not have enough paperwork on him when he pulled into a weigh station to have his commercial truck checked. He provided his commercial driver’s license and a social security number but ended up handcuffed.
An agent called his wife and she had to leave work to drive home and grab other documents like his birth certificate.
Jackie explains, “I have his social security card as well and mine. He’s legit. It’s the first time it’s ever happened.”
Both were born in the United States and say they are now both infuriated that keeping important documents safely at home is no longer an option.
Jackie said, “It doesn’t feel like it’s a good way of life, to live with fear, even though we are okay, we are legal…still have to carry documents around.” (emphasis added)
Let’s keep this fresh in our minds. This man was born in America. He is an American. I don’t know what Arizona’s problem is with birth certificates lately. From FOX News. (Yes, I said FOX):
The Arizona House approved a bill Wednesday that would require presidential candidates to show his or her birth certificate in order to be on the state’s ballot.
Is Arizona the Birther capital of America now? This man had his driver’s license and social security card yet ended up in handcuffs, then detained.
There is someone happy in all of this. Sheriff Arpaio won’t need Viagra tonight. He’s ecstatic:
Outspoken illegal immigration opponent Sheriff Joe Arpaio is known for his tough crackdowns on illegal immigrants. He is cheering Arizona’s new immigration law which was signed Friday by Governor Jan Brewer. During a press conference Saturday, Sheriff Joe Arpaio talked about how the bill will help him further his agenda. Among other things, he said it gives him new authority to detain undocumented residents who aren’t accused of committing other crimes.
Sheriff Joe, why do you need more authority? You abused your power before discrimination became law. Now, you can revel in other people’s misery knowing there will no consequence for your bigotry. You said this will help to “further your agenda.” We already know what your agenda is. Is this another example of, ‘patriotism‘?
