The Glenn Beck Rally In A Nut Shell

Glenn Beck’s rally was as expected, but before the attendance numbers get out of hand, the US Park Service estimates up to 350,000 Tea People and flag wavers attended.  That had to be said up front before the exaggerated numbers come out later.

The people who attended were clearly there for a red-meat tossing tirade about how the evil Socialist President Obama and the handmaidens of Satan – aka The Democratic Party – were destroying America.  What they got instead was a long-form Christian revival meeting combined with a military recruiting show.  The message was pretty clear and nothing new – “If America doesn’t turn toward God we’re all doomed!” combined with speaker after speaker pretty much fetishizing the military.

The faces in the (nearly all-white) crowd told the story – they came from all over the country for THIS? I’ve never seen so many frowns concentrated in one spot in my life.   The only people of color were on the stage and it was a parade of sermons and tales of military bravery, one after the other.


None of them ever did get around to defining what they meant by “honor” either (neither Beck nor Saint Sarah of the Perpetual Victim),  just that we didn’t have it like the Founding Fathers did.  Martin Luther King’s name was invoked a few times to scattered applause.


People on Twitter were reporting that the attendees said they felt “snookered” by Beck and weren’t happy at all.So what’s the “miracle” that took place today?  It was that this public ego masturbation by Glenn Beck attracted so many people (up to 350,000 people according to the US Park Service estimates) and got any attention at all.

Where else would you see a Confederate flag without watching an old movie?











In a nutshell, the Hitler meme is still being used, Xenophobia was in the air, Confederate flags are all the rage and the people that attended felt ripped of. The rally was just as expected.  These people can’t run a rally and they most certainly can’t lead America.  This man is a nut. Get out and vote.

    Anomaly, don’t confuse not damning her as defending her. I’m not sure about her qualifications to be President. Just as I was unsure about Obama’s qualifications. I challenge you or anyone else to show me one comment I have made saying what a wonderful President she would make. (Although I have a difficult time understanding how someone could be worse than what we are now experiencing.)

    But I’m not obsessed with her, ridiculing her every action or word. I am surprised the left, with their abysmally low opinion of her, invests so much effort in discrediting her….which subsequently arouses my curiosity as to motivation.

    However, the image of you jogging through the park in a bikini and pork chops sounds intriguing! (Although I think the spear in your teeth is a racist remark and I’m ashamed of you! :-) ) So, I’m gonna put some effort into this.

    1. I don’t think anyone can dispute that she is at least somewhat bright. I think her accomplishments would suggest she is not exactly stupid. So that’s one down.

    2. Given 1 to be true, then you would also have to agree to some level of wisdom. That’s two down.

    3. Experienced? If you use President Obama’s experience as a yardstick, then one would have to concede she is at least as experienced as the gentleman occupying the Oval Office now. Moving along, that takes care of three. (Are you thinking yet of how many pork chops this is going to take? Make sure they are small, light ones because you may need to run fast.)

    4. I’ve seen her in shorts and workout gear. No questioning that she is “fit”. That’s four down.

    I’ll work on balanced and mentally healthy while you make a run by the butcher’s shop! :-)

      Shiva – As far as the Black Panther incident goes, I prefaced my remarks with an understanding you wouldn’t appreciate the source. Please feel free to verify with you own research. The Black Panthers were already found “guilty” (?) but then, inexplicably, the case was dropped. While no one may have come forward, no one actually disputed as best I recall. I guess we are left to form our own conclusions for the time being.

      I’m not going to put a lot of time into the balance of your comment. It is a perfect example of the impasse of discourse in this country now that I am speaking about.

      YOU don’t like my sources. YOU don’t think what Robert, Me or (insert the opposing commenter of your choice) says has any merit so YOU discredit any thought or conclusion we arrive at. ME constantly going on about Liberals is B.S. YOU constantly going on about Beck, Palin, Bush, Cheney, Tea Party, Conservatives, Republicans is astute observation and commentary.

      I’m not trying to change you. I’m not trying to convince you you are wrong. I would just like for BOTH sides to recognize that we can be full of doodie and understand that the only way to move forward is to avoid the pitfalls Krauthammer speaks of….Failing to:

    Shiva – Please identify anything I said that you consider to be “talking points”?

    If I misunderstood your statement concerning Republican’s winning in November, please don’t blame me. Look at your statement. It’s virtually unintelligible.

    I did not express any concern for “three black panthers.” But in that particular matter, what concerns me more is the blatant malfeasance of the Attorney General’s office and the discriminatory practices they obviously promote and endorse.

    It’s not necessarily the action of those three specific individuals that is a cause for concern. It is the pattern of abuse and misconduct on the part of the Attorney General’s office that should concern us all. Even an “arrogant elite” such as yourself.

    You know, I hate to veer off topic, but I’ve got to tell you. You really don’t seem to make much sense. I once thought you were someone else. But I’ll have to say. As despicable a scumbag degenerate as that person is, he usually could at least put up a decent argument. Of course, that would be only a few moments before he stooped to profanity, ridicule and insult.

    You’ve been presented with some reasonable questions. Some of us have asserted some reasonable points. If your best response is ridicule and insult, why should WE waste the time in an attempt to elicit an intellectual exchange from you??

    Surely you can acquit yourself better. We’re anxiously waiting.

      @Hank your right, but are you really surprised? It always ends this way. Robert asked some tough questions I guess? I mean, I know how I’d answer them, but Shiva she’s all yawny and not full of talking points like repubs= NO SS and medicare and only 99 weeks of Unemployment.

        Shiva – Please allow me to ask one last question re: The Black Panthers.

        Do you, or anyone else, think for one second…..that if a couple of guys in white sheets and hoods had been parading around a polling location in southern Mississippi sporting blackjacks, nooses, or pictures of burning crosses, while saying they were simply providing security, that the charges would have been ignored and/or dropped??

        THAT, Mr. Shiva, (or Ms. Shiva) is the rampant hypocrisy I feel needs to be confronted and addressed if this country is ever to crawl out of the political quagmire we currently find ourselves in.

        (btw…you allege you are living in the Knoxville area. Let me guess. You’re a U.T. Fan? If so, then everything else about you falls into place!! ;-) )

      My reference to you on black panthers was this. You responded to my post to Robert. I merely asked you since you butted in, could YOU respond to the black panther question.

        In my opinion, Andrea, Stevoni and Robert all raised reasonable points and asked some pertinent questions.

        I was not aware responding to a comment was considered “butting in”. I’ll try to be more careful in the future.

        My comment, “As despicable a scumbag degenerate as that person is….” obviously was not directed at you. Unless you ARE that person. Then, the comment is not only directed AT you, it is an accurate description.

        My comment you mention was an observation and comment on your style of attack commentary which very closely follows the style Krauthammer describes. I’m sorry you mistakenly consider it a personal attack.

        The bottom line, and the original topic of this particular post, is there is a frenetic attempt by the left to discredit anything Beck (or Palin) says or does. And like good little sycophants, all the left chime in with agreement and snappy little insults. (Talking points??)

        Personally, I disagree with that characterization and have done my best to support my reasoning. They are attempting to inform the public with their view at least, of the problems and issues we face as a nation. Personally, I have faith the electorate as a whole will be able to sift through the information and separate the chaff from the seed.

        I think where you and I have the greatest difference in that area is YOU seem to think only Liberals have the ability to discern what is right, what is good. And all Conservatives or the right are so malleable that they are just being blindly led along.

          @Hank, May I “butt in” here for a sec? Hank, you constantly defend Palin and usually say something like, “Why are they so afraid of Sarah Palin” when in actuality, I think you know she’s an ignorant woman that has no place in the Oval Office. Please show me otherwise.

          If you prove your assertion of her being a good candidate for the Oval Office, meaning she’s bright, balanced, experienced, wise and a mentally healthy woman who is fit for the job, I’ll tell you what…I’ll wrap a sting of pork chops around my waist and go jogging through the dog parks here in New York with a bikini on and a spear clamped between my teeth screaming, “I love you Sarah! I wish I was like YOU!” If you lose, you vote for President Obama. Deal? ;-)

          One post up Hank. I have never spoke profanity on this website nor would I out of respect to anomaly.

          Your link goes to a person who quit his job becuase the panthers were not prosecuted. Your article fails to mention that not one witness came foreward to admit intimidation. In other words, there was no intimidation. Bush dropped it, Obama dropped it. End of story. While I dpont appropve of the black panthers, you cannot convict them without a foundation.

          Hank, yes I discredit Beck. A if you buy into his shtick, then you discredit yourself. I do not take him seriously in any way shape or form. I think he is possibly the biggest fraud since Sean Hannity to ever hit the airwaves.and I do not think that it is the liberals only who can determine who was being led along, anyone can do it. I just happen to think that anybody who follows the tea party and much of the conservative movement at this time is being led along and has no idea what the real intent is.

          I do not buy into anything that Robert said simply because I do not believe that it was the intent of Glenn Beck to restore any type of honor to America. Now it was a nice little Bible study session and that’s fine but really meant nothing as far as restoring honor. It changed nothing. Robert wants to believe that it was all about honor more power to him, but I also have an opinion and that seems to be one that you need to attack.

          As far as but even he responded to my response to Robert and it was apparent to me that you didn’t mean to. I think you meant that post to go someplace else

          your constant going on about liberals doing this and that and being the arrogant elite and all that stuff is just so much BS to me. Stevoroni is the same.
