THIS Is What Glenn Beck Really Feels For America

By reading the take of the right wing on Glenn Beck’s, Restoring Honor rally yesterday, you’d swear he’s a saint. Let’s set the record straight on the honorable Glenn Beck.

Most Republicans defend their own, no matter how inappropriate and anti-American their behavior denotes . They have selective memory.  Some right wingers are distancing themselves from Beck, but there are some that refuse to see Beck’s brand of crazy which is more than obvious to the rest of us.

In the absence of memory for some, let’s restore a small portion.

If President Obama said this, Glenn Beck would declare these remarks to be treasonous and pro-Islamic.  Would Obama have recovered from making remarks such as these? Would it have so easily been forgotten?  Hell, no. Beck would still be talking about it, day in and day out. Fox would have a field day.

On a side note~ My Republican family lives in New Orleans. I can assure you, they are not “scumbags”. Everyone in New Orleans was a victim of Katrina.  Everyone in New York that lived here during the 9/11 bombing, was a victim.  I thought everyone in America was a victim of 9/11?

Great post! There’s nothing more vile than Glenn Beck and this post really describes Beck’s disregard for America. I cannot even think of a bad enough word to call him; and I know words. But I’ve combed the volumes I own on Language, Linguistics, and Semantics and still, I cannot find the correct noun or adjective to explain Beck. Needless to say, he is much worse than a douche, and exceeds pile of crap. Of course, there is that one word that begins with c and offends nearly everyone. Since this is a great blog, I will refrain from calling him that word. And Palin too for that matter!

Sorry, one of those days. :-)

    • Chuck Miller

@Ronnie, He is BECK. That’s the new worst word: BECK. (Apologies to a couple of musicians, but them’s the breaks.) “God, what a stupid Beck you are!”

  • Andrea Griffin

Note that he clarifies later on that he doesn’t like “about ten” of the 9/11 families, and he doesn’t like the people who decided to stay in New Orleans when the hurricane was coming when they had plenty of time to evacuate.

I can’t say that I hate some of the victims in New Orleans, but they do piss me off. ALL of them had plenty of warning. Days in advance they knew what was going to happen. A VAST MAJORITY of them evacuated. Of those who didn’t, a majority of THOSE people could have, but didn’t. This only complicated the rescue efforts for those who really couldn’t get out and really did need the help. That pisses me off because it’s extremely irresponsible and selfish on their part. They ended up hurting the people who were helpless during the hurricane.

Conveniently, this audio clip leaves out a good explanation of what these few 9/11 families were doing to get his ire, other than “they’re spoiling it for everyone.” The situation sounds similar. At the time of the airing, there were probably a few families that were causing some kind of media drama but without more details it’s hard to really say.

Context matters. Removing enough context from a discussion is one of those things that really pisses me off, and I don’t care who does it. For example, O’Reilly has pissed me off by doing it on occasion (among other asshattery).

Maybe Glenn was being a jerk, maybe he wasn’t. If you can dig up the audio for that entire radio segment – not just a few minutes – it would be a lot easier to make a good decision.

  • Shiva

Beck told you his reason for hating them in the vid. Listen to it again. Mr we must love each other faith hope and charity hates people who spoil it for everyone. I cant see how any 9/11 or Katrina victims are spoiling it for me or anyone else.

Beck has said so much in the past he cant keep up with it. We cant keep up with it.

Beck says things that do and will haunt him. This vid is one that tells me he has no credibility period.

@Andrea Griffin, From where i sit, I would have preferred it greatly if he were to say, “I don’t like what a few of the Katrina victims did, although some had their reasons for staying” but for whatever reason he felt compelled to target Katrina victims. Everyone in my family, except for my mother, lost their homes. It was such a tragically horrific time, he needed to keep his mouth shut, for reasons that were obvious.

Also, the racial tension in New Orleans is worse than most states and at that time, there were armed people targeting African Americans. It wasn’t necessary to make this worse. We knew how bad things had gotten out of hand.

There isn’t a catastrophe in our history where someone hasn’t taken advantage or acted poorly so why didn’t he say that, instead of zeroing in on the two biggest catastrophes this country has ever seen?

I know some people say that, “Glenn Beck gets to the truth” but I find myself having to sift through his words in order to find any truth. I admire the Republicans that denounced him for choosing MLK’s, “I have a dream” day to congregate with others that want to “take their country back.” I truly admire them because they didn’t simply defend his insanity because he’s in their political party. I appreciate that when I see it from either side of the political spectrum.

You do realize that was not a media matters minute but a decent portion of his subject matter? I don’t like things taken out of text either, but for me to post his entire show, would make me want to thump myself in the head repeatedly. The man’s eyes spin around like dice in his head, yet some don’t see how insane he is! Just look at his blackboard! The arrows and lines which make no sense except to him, are deemed to be profound by his fans. I just don’t get it.

  • Hank

@Anomaly100, “The man’s eyes spin around like dice in his head…”

I feel it’s just the opposite. Beck makes Liberal’s eyes spin around out of control!! (Palin also.)

  • Andrea Griffin

@Anomaly100, Although it is over two minutes of audio, Glenn can take an hour long segment – or more – to make a single point. Sometimes it is very frustrating (get the the point already!), but that is how he works. Even a two minute clip can be lacking context. This doesn’t mean that it is intentional or done maliciously.

If you are able to somehow get the full audio (or transcript) of that show I would really like to see everything that was said.

    > I would have preferred it greatly if he were to say,
    > “I don’t like what a few of the Katrina victims did,
    > although some had their reasons for staying”

Listen to the audio starting at 1:38:
“…and it’s not all of the people in New Oreleans – most of them got out.” He then goes on to say that it’s a small percentage of those people that got all of the media attention, and he also brings up earlier in the audio that New Orleans gets all of the attention while a massive area is having a disaster.

It’s like the one kid that gets all of the praise and attention even though everyone else in the the kid’s class is doing just as good a job. It was very irritating to hear everything about New Orleans and extremely little to nothing about everywhere else. That is the point he is trying to make.

He could have worded it better, but again, perhaps he spent time before or after this clip clarifying and with the material as it is we’re missing the ability to know for certain.

    > I know some people say that, “Glenn Beck
    > gets to the truth” but I find myself having
    > to sift through his words in order to find
    > any truth.

I have listened to Glenn on and off for a very long time, since before his show became seriously political in nature. He has always come across as the guy who wants the truth above everything else, but he’s no god and he isn’t perfect. He gets things wrong sometimes (or a lot of the time, depending on your point of view) but I’m certain that it isn’t out of malicious intent.

Sometimes he is a little tin-foil-hat for my tastes too. The Great Google Conspiracy is an example where I think he’s gone a little too far out there. Same with Net Neutrality, but NN is a really sticky issue to begin with no matter what stance you take. Part of that is, I believe, a lack of technological background on his part.

To his credit he does admit when he gets things wrong. For example, he was initially very much in favor of the economic bailout. A few days later he took a completely different view, but spent a very long time explaining why he felt he was wrong before and what made him change his mind.

Sorry about the > quoting, but I’m not sure if the comment system here supports blockquote tags and whatnot. : > Also, it’s nice to be able to have an actual two-way conversation. A lot of political blogs are full of flame wars or flat out censorship and I’m really glad to see that isn’t the case here (though it would be nice to see people be less snippy).

  • Hank

@Andrea Griffin, Good comment. Good information.

This is why I enjoy this blog. The “flame wars” blogs are useless. (See Shiva’s comment for a good example.) (Sorry if that’s a bit “snippy”.)

And I’ve participated on blogs that exercise “flat out censorship”. Nothing no more frustrating than pouring significant time and effort into constructing what you feel is an informative, relevant and significant comment, just to come back later and discover it has either been censored to the point of being unrecognizable, or just simply (more often) deleted. And just slightly more frustrating is knowing you have to tiptoe around what you say in order to AVOID being censored or deleted.

Anomaly is wrong about virtually everything she thinks and says. :-) But I feel she runs this blog rather fairly.

But on point……I know Anomaly disapproves of heavily edited video. Just go back and look at how indignant she got over Breitbart’s videos!! ;-)

  • http://FreakOutNation.com Anomaly100

@Andrea Griffin, You’re a better person than I am if you can sit through his shows. To me, he’s obviously insane, but you may find that Rachel Maddow is and I think she’s great. Different strokes.

When I started this blog, there were flame wars. Hank remembers them I’m sure. I didn’t want to censor anyone. I was proud to be able to say I would not censor comments, until it got out of hand. Now, for the most part, the people that come here are respectful and seem to enjoy debate (although Hank cheats).

You give yourself credibility by doing research on what you read and hear. That’s a great trait to have these days.

  • http://FreakOutNation.com Anomaly100

@Hank, Aha! So you admit Breitbart’s video is edited! I caught you. ;-)
