Republican border patrol hawk Sheriff Paul Babeu, who is also running for Congress in Arizona, just got hit by a huge scandal. Babeu worked with Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign but has since stepped down as Arizona co-chair.
Babeu became the face of Arizona border security nationally after his show of opposition to illegal immigration/undocumented workers. Unless he’s having a sexual relationship with one of them apparently. For years.
This was a coming out party of sorts.
Babeu’s now ex-boyfriend came forward with accusations that the Sheriff threatened to deport him if he disclosed their relationship. Photos and text messages manifested to bring credibility to the accusations.
Phoenix New Times broke the story:
…threatened his Mexican ex-lover with deportation when the man refused to promise never to disclose their years-long relationship, the former boyfriend and his lawyer tell New Times.
The latest of the alleged threats were made through Babeu’s personal attorney, who’s also running the sheriff’s campaign for Congress in District 4, the ex-lover says.
He says lawyer Chris DeRose demanded he sign an agreement that he would never breathe a word about the affair. But Jose (New Times is withholding his last name because Babeu and his attorney have challenged his legal status) refused.
Huffpo reports, “According to Jose’s immigration attorney, Babeu’s lawyer falsely claimed the central Mexico resident’s visa paperwork had expired” adding “He did come in and retain me late last year based on threats and intimidation, and he wanted an attorney to help protect him.”
The scandal plagued sheriff has also been a Fox News regular and appeared in John McCain campaign ad, “Complete that danged fence” stating, “Senator, you’re one of us.” Hmm…there’s too many jokes here.
And then there’s his little white supremacy problem.
Tucson Citizen reports:
We remember that the newly elected Sheriff shot into the national headlines after he went on a white supremacist radio show. Some people were appalled by this; yet for others this is what they needed, a new Fox News right-wing star to replace the aging Arpaio.
Complete with Mexican-hating and skin-head.
Except for when Paul Babeu doesn’t hate Mexicans, but loves them all night long.
As I said, too many jokes, too little time. But, I can post tweets by @FakeDanSavage:
Bright side:
#Babeu was intercepting illegal sperm before it could make any anchor babies. There’s more than one way to protect our borders!Make sure there’s a glory hole in that danged fence.
#Babeu
